[ardour-users] Ardour and midi

Does ardour automatically find midi port and configure
itself to use the port? If not, how do I manually
direct it use a midi port (physical or virtual)?

I am not able to find ardour listed under the midi
section of qjackctl. However, other apps I have
running such as rosegarden and fluidsynth do show up,
with the appropriate connections visually appearing.
Does ardour use midi for tranport sync? or does it use
native jack synch protocol? I don't have any external
midi devices at this point, but I would like to have
virtual midi signalling within the system. Ardour
seems to automatically detect hw:0 (/dev/snd/midiC0D0)
without any complaints (not sure if silence is a good
sign -:)). I am digging into the midi, only because I
am not able to control rosegarden transport from
within ardour. If transport sync is not done over
midi, I am after the wrong issue. I am planning to
download the latest version of both apps to see if the
issue can be resolved. But generally midi works in my
machine (virmidi) as I am able to talk between
rosegarden and fluidsynth, successfully.
