[ardour-users] "draw gain automation" button vs. gain automation strip

What is the relationship between the "draw gain automation" button on
the top bar vs. the gain automation strip that appears when you choose
"a -> gain"?  Gain lines drawn with "draw gain automation" don't seem to
do anything, and using the gain automation strip is annoying in that you
can't just click and add control points.  The only way I can get it to
add a control point is to position the playhead where I want it and drag
the fader down using the mouse.  The fader then pops up to where it was
originally, but at least I have a control point I can drag around.

What am I doing wrong or should I submit a bug?
