[Ardour-Dev] OSC support improvement proposal

Hello,

I am a musician, I am not a developer, nor a programmer. Some of you
already know me from #ardour (as MaurizioB).
I recently started to develop a porting of Ardroid using the Kivy library.
The app is still in a beta state, but it's already working with added
features compared to Ardroid (most important is the fader support).

The main problem I encountered is that OSC lacks some very useful features
for this kind of remote control.
For starters, there is no way to recall the value of a fader, or the status
of any other value for the track, except for those obtained from
/ardour/list. I can obtain the value of every fader by using the scroll
wheel up/down on every fader in the mixer window (or by retyping it in the
value field), after that the values on the apps are correctly displayed.
Also there's no support for automation, which can be very useful for touch
mode.

I know that the -great- team of ardour developers is really busy with much
more important things to do, expecially now that they/you are dealing with
the cairo canvas situation and midi support, but I'd like to make a
proposal for a better OSC support, which can be useful not only for my
little app, but for other apps (I'm thinking about TouchOSC, for example)
and uses also.

Here's a little draft I made for you, please forgive my grammar mistakes.

Let me know if you have problems accessing this document, I'll post it as a
PDF document if you prefer.

Thanks,
Maurizio
