The email is sent when a developer 'pushes' his local work upstream.

There can be multiple independent commits each of them with its own log
message and they need not all related to the same branch mentioned in
the same email.

Hence, the hashes at the top are not just for fun, and there is no
single log-message that could be promoted to the top.
