[Ardour-Dev] Payed downloads for Ardourvst on GNU/Linux

Hi,

Mac-users have to pay at least 1$ to download Ardour 2.8 with full AU
plugin support. This could be a nice way to generate some financial
resources.

Why not let GNU/Linux users pay at least 1$ for Ardourvst?

I suggest to let Ardour2 (2.8) hit the different distributions (e.g.
Debian, Fedora, Mandriva etc.) And package, in corporation with
distributions like Ubuntu Studio, 64Studio, Musix, JackLab etc.,
Ardourvst packages and offer these on the Ardour website like you offer
the Mac packages with AU plugin support.

This way has several advantages in my opinion:

1) You generate some financial resources, which are very needed.
2) You encourage GNU/Linux people to use FLOSS software plugins like LV2
and LADSPA (this is better for the development and improvement of FlOSS
plugins.
3) You give people the opportunity to use VST on GNU/Linux.
4) If you do the packaging in corporation with the multimedia distro's,
you get good packages and don't have to package those yourself.

I hope these ideas are taken seriously and will help the Ardour project.

Thanks in advance,

\r
