In versions 2.03 to 2.1 I observed the problem that the default values 
in the menus differ from built-in defaults, i.e., if you once change the 
settings in the menus and save the file, everything works fine, even 
after next open of session. For new sessions, the default behavior seems 
to be "short cross fade" independently from the menu settings. This 
might be affected by settings in ~/.ardour2 configurations, I am not 
sure. I though I wrote a detailed bug report some day, but cannot find 
it right now.
