I've seen this behavior, but it doesn't seem to have any affect on the
actual volume output.  I attributed it to Ardour and the BCF being able
to make their adjustments a lot faster than I could by hand!  I don't
mind it at all, to be honest, but if there's an easy way to make it
smoooooth, I'm sure it'll get put in.
