i guess i should understand the question before posting..
but i don't think i was too far off.
how about this?
if i record something, the resulting region is called A-1.
in the region list i get A-0, which is an unused region that has the
length of the original recording, and A-1 (the current region on the
playlist)
if i copy A-1, the result is A-2, so i now have three regions listed.
if i drag A-0 onto a playlist, it gets called A-3.
the idea is that we can always get the original by selectiong A-0, and
that edits of a file (ie new regions created by splitting/copying) end
up chronologically numbered.
hopefully i've understood you this time.
