or how it is different than for example the stereo main outs of a 16 channel analog mixer? Is the extra 'color' claim completely bullshit?</p>

You might want to do that if you had a fairly finished mix of some<br>
sounds that you wanted to record as one track. Like, say you've got a<br>
live drum kit, you know you're only ever going to want the drums as a<br>
stereo pair, so you'd mix the drums externally and record just the pair<br>
rather than each mike individually.<br>
