I can't speak highly enough of this as a choice of interface.<br>

It's so simple, ADAT copes with you synch issues, ( the Hammerfall is
master ) and you get to chose from the plethora of ADAT capable kit out
there, which is plenty.<br>

The only problem i had, being newly in the market for studio gear, was
that many I/O devices exist now which although equiped with ADAT
optical ports, are MEANT tob be controlled by proprietary software,
using standard 1394 cables in non-standard ways.<br><br>The Focusrite Saffire 26i/o was prime example. <br>
Sounded fine in asio, but would not even start up in linux, not through FreBob or any other how.<br>
Back to the shop it went, to be replaced by the<br><br>Focusrite OctoPre - a great sounding 8-preamp single-rackspace device, with ADAT card option.<br>
Annoyingly, when i went to install the ADAT card, i noticed there was no output port. RATS!!<br>i needed that to monitor through!!<br>Why bother NOT putting an out on the card? OH WELL>>><br>Back to the shop with the OctoPre, to be replaced by the<br><br>FocusriteOctoPreLE -<br>YAY!! eight ins and outs on the card. Installed the card in about fifteen minutes, <br>and fired up Ardour.<br>the Hammerfall with OctoPreLE works ilke a dream. <br>The OctoPreLE has no compressors/limiters, which make it cheaper than the first two Focusrites, <br>with eight ins and outs.<br>I'm considering some more 'posh' preamps/converters soon to supplement.<br><br>It's wonderful having a choice!<br><br><br><br>my friend has shelled out for a new 'ProTools' rig - i'm sure he'll do great things with that, but it makes me kinda sad as well.<br>I want to sway him in the Ardour direction!<br><br><br>
