When I saw the circuit and the read the comments from Gordonjcp I
decided to stop feeding the troll. However, as already pointed out, I'm
using guitar gear without tubes and already build such gear when I was
a teenager. While some of this gear is very good for some purposes
(I already mentioned the Boss Turbo Overdrive OD-2 and that guitarists
pay a lot of money to get a replica of this stomp box), the
advantage of tube amps is that they could be used for a wider variety
of purposes without complicated adjustments of knobs. In short, the
guitarist could connect the guitar cable and gets a pleasant sound for
what ever kind of style and guitar the guitarists wants to play, without
wasting time with too many knob adjustments. All non-tube guitar amps I
ever heard did sound death directly compared to guitar tube amps, even
when spending hours with adjustments. Maybe there are non-tube amps
available that do not sound dead in direct comparison to a tube amp, but
seemingly it's easier to get a tube amp that does what most guitarists
like to get, than to get a non-tube amp. Btw. I at least own a keyboard
non-tube combo that does weight a lot. Non-tube gear not necessarily is
that different build when it comes to weight.
