[Ardour-Users] Locate peaks

Dear list,

Forgive my beginner's qustion, but I searched manuals and the web. Still 
dumbfounded I turn to You:

Is there a Way to find the peak of a region? Just looking at the 
waveform does not appear precise or efficient enough to me.

I have about 80 minutes of raw interview recorded, and as is often the 
case with speech, the levels vary. Before normalising / further 
processing I want to locate the loudest spots and edit them out or lower 
the gain. How best to achieve this?
