if the environment variable is not set, the built-in default-lv2-path
from liblilv is used.

Maybe you have different versions of liblilv? /usr/local/lib /usr/lib/
/lib64  ??


In any case, to test you could grab a copy from
http://nightly.ardour.org/ (which includes its own copy of liblilv,
distro independent, goes to /opt/Ardour...  and also includes an
uninstaller)
