I am currently testing Ardour 4.7 with the Mackie Control Universal¹
(note the absence of "Pro") and I was really impressed by the
out-of-the-box experience. Great work!
Knowing nothing about MCP, I can imagine that there is room for
interpretation when assigning buttons to DAW functionality. I am also
aware that there is usually no definitive correct way of assigning
controls to the DAW.
However, can one see/modify/experiment with the assignments? Say, via
some configuration file?
The assignment of the "global view" buttons (which switch between
seeing tracks, buses, both or selected) seems to be hidden from the GUI
and from share/mcp/mc.device. Especially, I could not find
functionalities like "show only buses on the controller" or "bank left"
in the GUI.
Every second button or so actually does something, others are unused
(unreliably explored using trail and error).
Maybe we could make use of those buttons for groups with special names
or something alike.
It might be useful to use the V-Pot button press to signal a touch for
automation, to reset the value (shift) or to chose the destination
value for flip mode (control).
Are there any plans for the flip button already?
I'd be happy if someone could point me into a direction where the
assignments are done and where they can be modified.
