It could cause xruns.

This is, at least was true for the packaged tools, but command line
without such a tool should always work:

echo performance | sudo tee /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/scaling_governor

But indeed, it doesn't reduce latency, IOW even "ondemand" doesn't add
additional delay.
