Hmmm... There's no real need to throw away Pulse Audio these days.
pavucontrol will work.  Less steps to do.  See attached.

As a SW designer/developer myself I'd nevertheless find it daunting to
be face to face with such a script for a solution ... when I just want
to have freedom and express my freedom through music !  Now ! :)
