The implementation of those filters demands that the ports be connected
after instantiate() and before activate() IIRC.
Otherwise indeed: they either crash and burn, DC offset like crazy or do
nothing... Most other LADSPA filters seem to
work fine, regardless of when port_connect() is called. Perhaps check the
host implementation?
