it is not corrupted.

this is an error caused by your distribution. there is something wrong with
the image loaders used by GTK. the error has been seen before, but is
always system specific, and there is no known fix. i have spent several
hours debugging it in the past, and it always come down to something having
gone wrong with the GTK installation so that it can no longer load images
of a specific type, but only in specific conditions.

i have never been able to find a fix for it since there has never appeared
to be anything wrong with ardour. everyone i can recall who has run into
this problem has reported that using the binary build from
ardour.org(which comes with its own version of GTK) fixes the problem
for them.

as for "jamming on an icon" ... the program rightfully considers it quite a
major problem if loading a simple image file from disk does not work.
