I just built ardour 2.8.12 from source to test and I get following in
scons output:

checking build system type... ok
x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
checking host system type... x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu

and the denormals options are greyed out in ardour and I noticed in
ardour startup text:
[INFO]: No H/W specific optimizations in use

If I use the binary ardour 2.8.12 those options are available and appear
to be working.
