I'm probably misinterpreting you but I think that would be hard to do 
since, being digital, the waveform is discontinuous at every sample point.

It's been awhile since I've done any editing however the last time I 
used Ardour I would have liked to be able to quickly scroll to clip 
points. The red indicators in the waveform did help but it was tedious 
to do manually.

But these are both different purposes to finding zero-crossings, which 
is to find points where the track may be cut without introducing 
transients - a pretty common requirement but possibly not trivial to do 
properly.
