hi everybody!
in the past, some people have reported frequent interruptions of
multitrack recordings with the message "disk too slow to keep up with
ardour". while preparing for a live production, i hit the same issue.
following advice from paul, i increased the ardour.rc option
"track-buffer-seconds" from its default value of 5 seconds to a hefty
60. this might be overkill, but hey, ram is cheap, and i can now report
two successful live recording sessions of more than 4 hours of
continuous operation, writing 44 tracks of 48khz audio to a raid1 array
of 2tb sata disks.
thomas vecchione tells me that seek operations will become slower with
such massive buffers, because ardour will attempt to fill the buffers
after locating to a new place, but i was not particularly disturbing.
and for studio work, the value can always be reduced again later.
huge kudos to the ardour crew for a tremendous job! just this one post
production and then i promise to check out ardour3 in my daily work :)
best,
jörn
