there is a fantastic mag a friend of mine turned me onto a few years 
back called TapeOp that showcases indie studios and engineers:

I think there was an article about a FOSS studio (can't remember off 
hand) a few years back but someone should make Ardour the centerpiece of 
an article -- i.e. how it is used in a pro situation and what some of 
the issues were going from a commercial DAW to Ardour etc etc
