Just a quick update on the 'gwc' recording, restoration program (v.
'gramofile'), in case any one might be interested. I had to resign
myself to the fact that, in order to use this program, I needed to make
use of OSS sound system ('/dev/dsp' in the 'miscellaneous' option, under
the 'Settings' menu). I had not expected this, as the preferences give
you the hope that alsa is supported (maybe, but apparently not for me,
nothing personal, I'm sure :)). There is a delay in starting up, & some
dang pops when it switches (I did try to set the sound preferences to
OSS, didn't seem to help, perhaps someone has a suggestion here?)

Any way, right now, I much prefer this program because:

1.) it seems to do better at pop/click removal;

2.) seems more flexible;

3.) & last, but definitely not least, it is a GUI run program, which
allows you to see the wave form/s, which seems crucial to me with
digital editing.

I have not used very many of the other features yet, but will look
forward to trying them out...

Henry
P.s., the help file from the help menu is helpful (brief, & you have to
read carefully).
