[Ardour-Users] Ardour, Jack OS-X and Firewire I/O

Does anyone know if Jack (under OS-X) can make use of Firewire I/O devices?

A friend of mine owns some kind of Firewire I/O device made by Tascam.  He doesn't know the model number (but I'm sure he could probably find it).  However, it's about 3 years old, comes in a 2U rackmount unit and has various analogue I/O ports, plus ADAT and S/PDIF which all get routed to his Mac using Firewire.  Currently he's using it with the Samplitude DAW (a Windows program that he's running under OS-X, via Parallels).  Amazingly, this convoluted setup seems to work!  He'd like to cut Windows & Parallels out of the equation and try either Ardour or Mixbus.  But he needs to know whether his Tascam I/O box will be recognised.  Can anyone help with this?  Or do I need to find out some more information?
