It occurs to me that perhaps you should be looking at snd:

Its an audio editor modelled quite closely on Emacs, comes with a
builtin scheme interpreter, and is phenomenally extensible. Very
popular in certain segments of the academic audio world, and
deservedly so.

9 years ago it appeared possible that Snd was going to be the "editor
within Ardour", but it turned out to have a number of architectural
issues that made this impossible (none of which had to do with GUI
embedding, btw).
