[Ardour-Users] how to commit a fix

What is the right way to commit code (i mean version 2.8.x)?
I fixed the bug that I personally logged in mantis (bug 2836).
The ardour dev page says I have to supply a public SSH key to commit.  
If I do generate my private/public key pair with openssh, where do i 
send my public key file?
Do I really need to commit or just send my diff file to one legitimate 
developer?
