[Ardour-Users] Can anyone help with a Linux problem ?

Thanks Mark,

Sadly I don't have the luxury of being able to change my graphics card
because this is an onboard chip, built into my laptop.... :-(

In fact here was only one so I renamed it and rebooted.  No difference
unfortunately.  I discovered that this procedure would get rid of the error
dialog saying, "I've detected a panel already running" etc:-

1)  Use CTRL+ALT+F1 to escape back to a terminal
2)  Log in as myself
3)  sudo killall gnome-panel
4)  sudo killall gdm
5)  startx

The above starts X without the error dialog- but I still only get the blank
white screen.  Given that X starts successfully if I log in as root, I'm
starting to wonder if this is a permissions problem.  Maybe there's a file
somewhere whose permissions got changed when I upgraded.  And now it can be
opened by root but not by me.  Does that seem plausible?
