Mandriva runs fine for me with Ardour, Rosegarden, Audacity, etc.

I had 2GB of RAM in my last system, and it seemed like enough. The
only thing that had trouble keeping up with Ardour was the hard
drive, and that only happened when I was pushing ~70 tracks at once.

I was unaware of ia64. I use x86_64 for 64-bit things.
