yes, i tried and had problems, too.

i've had a glimpse at it (and will give it some more reading, looks 
interesting). if i understand correctly so far, producing html works like a 
charm, but at least all free tools to generate pdf are somewhat behind 
standard as of now:
 o http://www.sagehill.net/docbookxsl/FOprocessors.html
therein could lie a source for the problems we faced.

this looks interesting, too, but it is bound to a very old LyX version and 
relies on sgml, not xml:
 o http://www.karakas-online.de/mySGML/mySGML.html
