I had the same kind of problem with 9 or 10 tracks when doing overdubs
(like 6 or 7 layers on each track), my laptop was not able to keep
up. As far as I understood from what Paul explained to me at the time,
there is not much that can be done except "don't do this" or use
faster disks.
