In theory, of course. In practice, why didn't your first export work?
It should have.

I think the issue here is this may not work real well, or it may be
more of an issue on the version you are running. Unfortunately it
probably amounts to discovering what works and what doesn't.

(I'm not running Ardour at the moment or I'd do it myself. Sorry.
