[ardour-users] RE: MIDI Trouble

This is my first posting so if I am not following anything properly or in
the best way please feel free to correct me so I can do it right. I am
responding to a message below where I had similar problems with midi. Just
to put in my 2 cents I am using both a USB soundcard and USB midi and I have
to boot up my system (agnula) with the midi unplugged just until it is
booted so that jack will work properly. I am guessing it is the order of the
soundcards being configured though I haven't quite figured out how to fix
that when both are USB based. If I just have the midi unplugged until
boot-up it is fine. Just thought I would mention that. I don't think it is
related to Ardour so much as the system itself and Jack finding which
soundcard to use.

By the way, I am now beginning to record more consistently with Ardour and
was wondering if there were any 'demo' recordings available to download? I
am curious to hear what others are creating with it.

Ok, sorry again. I read to fast and didn't pay attention...

When I start ardour from Contents/Resources/bin/, ardour starts up.
Then I give the session a name and as soon as I click on the create
button, it closes down.
Here's the output from the terminal.

<...>

~/Applications/Music Applications/Ardour-0.99/Ardour.app/Contents/
Resources/bin$ ./ardour
Ardour/GTK 0.99
(built using 1.0.0 with libardour 0.901.2 and GCC version 3.3
20030304 (Apple Computer, Inc. build 1666))

ardour: [ERROR]: keyboard_target: error setting binding state:
invalid node
Loading session /Desktop/ardour_test using snapshot ardour_test

<...>

If instead I click on cancel on ardour first prompt, I get this message:

JACK has either been shut down or it disconnected Ardour because Ardour
was not fast enough. You can save the session and/or try to reconnect
to JACK.

and the output from the terminal:

<...>

~/Applications/Music Applications/Ardour-0.99/Ardour.app/Contents/
Resources/bin$ ./ardour
Ardour/GTK 0.99
(built using 1.0.0 with libardour 0.901.2 and GCC version 3.3

Then if I do File > New and create the session I get the following
message:

Ardour: Fatal Error
Programming Error AudioEngine::framerate() called while disconnected
from JACK.
Press to exit

and Jack is still running.

Okay an update:
(In case anyone is interested)
I launched Ardour and actually got a session running
WITH only the internal audio.
My M-Box and my Motu 2408mk3 just won't work at all.
The only way to even launch the program is from contents/resources/bin.
I really, REALLY want this program to work for me.

Stephen Falk

Motu2408mk3
M-Box
OS 10.4.2
Most recent version of Jack and Ardour.

Hi all,

maybe someone can give me a hint what I am doing wrong?
I still have problems connecting a Behringer BCF2000 to ardour

See: http://ardour.org/manual/using_a_bcf2000

 * running ardour on "64Studio" (a debian distribution geared at multimedia
on AMD64 machines)
 * now using ardour 0.99 compiled from source
 * updated the firmware of the BCF2000 to V1.10

Basically, if I just fire up ardour, I can't set up the necessary midi
connections.
qjackctl doesen't establish the connecttion after I click on "connect". When
trying
aconnect, I get a message "Resource temporarily unavailable" (see details
below)

/But/, if I manage to have the midi ports of the BCF2000 beeing used by
another application
/when I start up ardour/, I can establish the necessary connections. After
this the
BCF2000 works as expected (can control ardour via BCF2000 and get any
parameter feedback)!

any hints, pointers or help greatly appreciated!
Hermann Vosseler
