As far as I was aware there are 2 ways of doing it 1. like you suggested 
remove all alsa/raw which allows you to share midi connections with other 
apps (via qjackctl).
2. Just leave one alsa/raw type that corresponds to your midi device and 
remove the other alsa/raw and alsa/sequencer.  The second way gives you a 
hard wired connection that (as far as i know) can only then be used by 
ardour.
