There are a few. Ron Parker seems to be pretty committed to Linux and
is running at least a major part of his studio using Ardour.

That said Ron's been at this for a few years now. It's taken all of us
a long time to get to even this point and there's still a very long
way to go. I've only done a couple of songs in Linux vs. probably
75-100 in Pro Tools. Those couple were difficult but the tools get
better and better. I'm still enthused.

Just don't set your sights so high that you get overly frustrated.

As for your original post, which I was actually going to respond to
this morning, I'd consider FC2 and PlanetCCRMA. Get that set up, get
Alsa working, download Ardour and start recording. It will probably
work out pretty well for you.
