You can rename regions by ctrl-right-click on the name(the standard  
"edit-click" defined in the options window)
Or you can change it in the region pop-up editor.
But I agree that region naming and region-list editing needs work :)

There is (or was) also a bug that a seperated region would be underneath  
the parent when seperating, hiding it from view untill you removed the  
region on top. Since it is identical to the region on top it wouldn;t show  
when toggling the opacity of the region
However shift-middle-click raises and alt-shift-middle-click lowers a  
region so you can lower the "parent"-region untill the seperated region  
becomes visible. (or use the context menu of course)

The key-click combinations are one of the best kept secrets of ardour at  
the moment. I thought there was also one for toggling opacity, but I can't  
find it in the code, so I must be mistaken.
