Depends on how many tracks you stream, generally this won't be a limiting 
factor.

Yep, I'm running DFH under Linuxsampler. Though, until ardour does midi you 
can't do much without a midi sequencer, my own preference being MusE.

I've got some starter scripts for Linuxsampler that might come in handy until 
the Linuxsampler GUI is finished, incase you want to try it.

Probably no good for streaming data to/from. But for backup purposes it's a 
splendid solution. I'm actually backing up over standard USB (takes ages).

Some people do, some don't ;-). You don't "need" an external mixer, but 
depending on your way of working it might be very handy. You should probably 
try to work out how you plan to record before emptying your pockets.
