Ardour now supports midi via the alsaseq interface (as well as
rawmidi).  Just go to the Options Editor, MIDI tab, and select
external midi control checkbox. 

MMC should just work, while you need to manually bind midi events
to faders, with Ctrl-middle-click on the fader, then wiggle the
midi controller to bind to it.

If you don't see ardour in the alsamidi patchbay, then make sure
your ~/.ardour/ardour.rc contains a line like this near the top
(with <Ardour>):

 <MIDI-port tag="seq" device="ardour" type="alsa/sequencer" mode="duplex"/>
