This has been happening in several previous versions too, back to at least
2.8.8. I've mentioned it several times on this list and the ardour.org
forums, but this is the first time I've seen anyone else mention it.

I record at 48kHz and often export to 44.2kHz 16 bit .wav with triangular
dither. Almost every time it takes several attempts to export. The first
few times the file is created but it doesn't contain valid audio data.
After a few attempts the progress bar appears and works as expected,
at which point the .wav file is exported correctly.

I've actually got so used to this that I'd forgotten it shouldn't be
happening.
