Thanks John,

It turned out that PREFIX was set to /usr/local/ but this brings up
something new.  Back in the days of Ardour 0.99 (and even with the early
beta version of 2.0) Ardour seemed to get installed under /usr/local/libs/
but again, the version in that location is an old version.  It doesn't seem
as though anything's been updated there since I upgraded to the proper
release (V2.0.5).  Until now I just assumed that this was a deliberate
change but now I'm not so sure.  Scons definitely isn't copying anything
there in my case but from what you said, is sounds as if it should be.
