that's probably not an issue. i get that with clearlooks.

 have you run alsaconf ? that should fix that, unless alsa isn't happy for 
another reason. is alsa built in to kernel or built from source ? you'll need 
at least the alsa-utils package as well as drivers & libs. but i'm sure you 
know that already :)

not so sure. after alsa is running, try some other apps as well to make sure 
you can run something or nothing... then decide. i'd get alsa happening 
first.
