Is it safe then to assume that the format of the session files is
frozen as well? Will versions of Ardour through 2.0 be able to open
the session files from versions of Ardour >= 0.99 without any

Completely understandable given that most bugs, especially the
usability issues, seem to have their roots in the limitations and
kinkiness of the GTK1 API. Moving directly to GTK2 is probably the
fastest way to eliminate many of the bugs in Mantis. Good luck.
