[ardour-dev] learning audio

Hello everyone,
 
  Pardon me if this is a novice question to ask on this list, but I 
would like to know of some recommended references to study audio 
application programming.   I would like to be able to read understand 
the source code to ardour, but don't really know where to start.  My 
experience in mostly in java, so I'm reviewing c/c++ to for this reason.
Are there any lucrative resources that I should read on how to use the 
various audio api's?
