[Ardour-Users] no mixer window

ardour 2.4.1 build 3243 on SUSE 10.3

i've got a session which prevents the mixer window from showing. ALT+E and the Show Mixer menu item bring up the mixer window without trouble in other sessions, but with this particular one the mixer window just will not come up.

has anyone experienced this? any clues about what might be borked in the session file?
