wow, this thread has grown in the last couple of days. just a thought about
'bounties':

i don't think a bounty system is such a good idea, since the developer pool
is quite small, so if people with lots of money start asking for features
that are very time consuming to implement, they may be focused on to the
detriment of other needed but smaller features.

something similar though may be that subscribers get 'credit' to vote on set
lists of options...

eg paul or some other dev says:
'these are the three features i am thinking of working on
1)..
2)..
3)..
subscribers, vote on which you think is most important and should be worked
on first'

this way the developers have more control over where they work, but
subscribers get the feeling of being more involved in the direction. of
course if the dev changes his/her mind, the vote shouldn't be binding :)
